Barnluren is a private voice network for families. It gives children a safe way to stay in touch with approved contacts like parents, grandparents, and family friends. The network is completely private - it's not connected to the regular phone network.
Unlike a regular phone or mobile, Barnluren operates on a closed private network. Your child can only call and receive calls from contacts you've approved. There's no connection to the public phone network, no internet access, no apps, and no screen. It's a simple, safe phone for voice calls only.
Barnluren is designed for children roughly ages 4-12, before they get their own smartphone. It's for families who want their child to have phone independence - the ability to call grandparents, friends, and family on their own - without giving them a screen.
Barnluren is not a replacement for a mobile phone. It's a complement - a dedicated home phone for your child. It doesn't work outside the home, can't send texts, and has no screen. What it does do is give your child the ability to make and receive voice calls independently.
Barnluren currently ships devices within Sweden only. However, family members using the free app can call from anywhere in the world - the app works over the internet, so distance doesn't matter.
Barnluren is available in Swedish and English. You can switch between languages at any time on our website and in the app.
No. Barnluren is a private network that is technically separate from the public phone network. Calls to emergency services (112), regular phone numbers, or anyone outside the Barnluren network are not possible. This is by design - the closed network is what makes it safe. Make sure your child knows how to reach emergency services through other means.
No. Your child's phone can only receive calls from contacts you've explicitly approved. Both sides must approve the connection before calls can go through. There is no way for someone outside your approved list to reach your child.
No. The device will only connect calls to contacts on the approved list. If your child tries to dial a number that isn't approved, the call simply won't connect.
No. We never record, monitor, or listen to any calls. We store basic call records (who called whom, when, and for how long) so you can see call activity in your dashboard, but the actual conversations are completely private.
We collect the minimum data needed to operate the service: the child's first name (for display), call records (time, duration, who called whom), and device connection status. We don't collect location data, browsing history, or any behavioral data. See our privacy policy for full details.
Yes. Barnluren is a Swedish company and fully GDPR compliant. We process data within the EU, collect only what's necessary, and give you full control over your family's data. You can request data export or deletion at any time.
No. The Barnluren device uses your internet connection only to make voice calls on our private network. There is no web browser, no apps, and no way for your child to access the internet through the device.
You need: 1) A home internet connection (WiFi or wired), 2) An analog telephone (any standard phone with a cord will work), and 3) A Barnluren subscription. We send you the adapter device that connects your phone to our network.
Your Barnluren box includes: the pre-configured adapter device (ATA), an ethernet cable, a power adapter, and a quick-start guide. You supply your own analog telephone - any standard phone with a phone cord will work.
Setup takes about 5 minutes: 1) Connect the adapter to your router with the included ethernet cable, 2) Plug in the power adapter, 3) Connect your analog phone to the adapter. That's it - the device is pre-configured and connects automatically.
The adapter connects to your router with an ethernet cable (included in the box). It needs a wired connection to your router for the best call quality. If your router is far from where you want the phone, you can use a longer ethernet cable or a powerline adapter.
Yes! Any standard analog telephone with a phone cord (RJ11 connector) works. This includes classic rotary phones, cordless DECT phones, and simple desk phones. The more fun the phone, the more your child will love using it.
About 5 minutes from opening the box to making your first call. The device comes pre-configured, so there's no software installation or technical setup required.
First, check that the ethernet cable is firmly connected to both the adapter and your router, and that the power light is on. If the device still doesn't connect, try restarting your router. If problems persist, contact us at hej@barnluren.com and we'll help you troubleshoot.
From your dashboard, you can invite family members by entering their email address. They'll receive an invitation to download the free Barnluren app and create an account. Once they accept, they'll appear as a contact your child can call.
Yes! The app is designed to be simple enough for anyone. Grandparents just need a smartphone (iPhone or Android) to install the free app. Once set up, calling their grandchild is as simple as tapping one button. Many grandparents tell us it's the easiest app on their phone.
When you invite a family member, they receive an email with a link to download the Barnluren app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). The app is free for all family members.
Yes, completely free. Only the parent who subscribes for the child's device pays. Everyone else - grandparents, aunts, uncles, family friends - uses the app for free with no limits.
Yes! If both families have Barnluren, the children can call each other directly. Both parents need to approve the connection first - you add their child from your dashboard, and they add yours. Once both sides approve, the children can call each other freely.
There is no limit. You can add as many family members and friends as you like to your child's approved contact list.
Yes. You can add or remove contacts from the approved list at any time from your dashboard. Changes take effect immediately.
Yes. For child-to-child calls, both parents must approve the connection. This ensures both families are comfortable with the arrangement. You'll each see a connection request in your dashboard that you can accept or decline.
Barnluren costs 99 kr/month for the subscription plus a one-time device fee of 499 kr. The subscription includes unlimited calls, free family apps for all your contacts, and the parent dashboard. No per-minute charges, no hidden fees.
Everything: unlimited calls on the Barnluren network, free apps for all family members, the parent dashboard for managing contacts and seeing call activity, device support, and all future updates.
No. Barnluren is a monthly subscription with no commitment period. You can cancel at any time.
Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your dashboard. Your service will continue until the end of your current billing period.
If you cancel, your child's device will no longer be able to make or receive calls at the end of your billing period. Family members using the free app will also lose the ability to call your child. You can reactivate at any time.
Yes. You can add additional lines from your dashboard. Each additional child gets their own phone number and contact list, with a separate device fee and subscription.
No. The monthly subscription and one-time device fee cover everything. There are no per-minute charges, no setup fees, and no fees for adding family members.
If you can't make calls, check that: 1) Your device is connected to the internet (check the lights on the adapter), 2) You've been invited by a Barnluren member, 3) The person you're trying to call has added you to their allowed callers list. Both parties must approve each other before calls can connect.
Very little. Voice calls use about 100 kbps, so even a basic internet connection is more than enough. If you can stream music or browse the web, your connection is fast enough for Barnluren.
The device needs a wired internet connection, so it's designed for home use. However, family members with the app can call from anywhere in the world - the app works over any internet connection, including mobile data.
No. The adapter needs power and an internet connection to work. During a power outage, calls won't go through. Family members can still use the app on their phones if they have mobile data.
You can reach us by email at hej@barnluren.com, or use the contact form in your dashboard under Support. We typically respond within 24 hours.
Welcome! Click the link in your invitation email to create your free Barnluren account. Then download the Barnluren app on your iPhone or Android phone. Once you're set up, you can start calling right away.
No. The Barnluren app is completely free for family members. Only the parent who subscribes for the child's device pays.
The Barnluren app works on iPhone (iOS 16 or later) and Android (version 10 or later). Any relatively modern smartphone from the last few years will work.
Open the Barnluren app and tap the call button next to your grandchild's name. Their phone will ring just like a regular call. It's that simple.
No. Barnluren is a private network, so calls must go through the Barnluren app. You can't call a Barnluren device from a regular phone number. This is what keeps the network safe for children.
Currently, you need a smartphone to use the Barnluren app. If you don't have one, another option is to get your own Barnluren device and phone - talk to the parent who invited you about adding you as a device user instead. We're exploring more options for the future.
Give your child their own phone to call the people who matter most.
