What Barnluren is
Barnluren is a private voice network for families. The child gets a physical landline-style phone at home; parents, grandparents, and family friends call to and from it using a free mobile app. It is not connected to the public telephone network — the child can only call, and be called by, contacts the parents have approved.

Barnluren phone adapter: 499 kr (one-time)
Subscription: 40 kr per month

One subscription covers the whole family: apps and accounts for grandparents, relatives, and friends are free, with no per-user cost
An optional analog telephone can be added to the order, or you can use any analog phone you already have, as long as it supports tone dialling.
The family apps work anywhere in the world, and calls are always free of charge — every user can make unlimited calls.
Safety by design
The child can only call contacts the parents have approved — nobody else, ever.
Strangers cannot call the child: incoming calls are only possible from the approved list.
Barnluren is a closed network. It cannot call regular phone numbers, and regular phones cannot call it.
Barnluren cannot call emergency services (112). It is a family phone, not a solution for emergencies.
Teach your child to call emergency services from a mobile phone — modern mobile phones automatically share the caller's location with 112 — and follow your region's guidance on preparing children for emergencies.
For children calling each other, both families must approve the connection first.
Up to 99 approved contacts per child; parents can add or remove contacts at any time.
Privacy and data
Calls are never recorded, monitored, or listened to, unless we are required to by an authority.
We collect the minimum data needed to run the service, and nothing about the child beyond a first name.
No advertising, no tracking cookies, no sale of data — the subscription is the business model.
GDPR compliant; the service runs on Barnluren's own EU-based infrastructure.

Requirements

Setup
Plug the adapter into power and connect your phone to it
Open the Barnluren app and follow the guided setup to connect the adapter to your WiFi
Make the first call — about 5 minutes from opening the box
What Barnluren is not
Not a mobile phone: the device stays at home and does not follow the child outside.
Not an emergency phone: it cannot reach 112 or any number outside the family network.
Not a GPS tracker: Barnluren does not track the child's location — by design.
About the company
Barnluren was founded in Stockholm, Sweden, by a father who wanted his children to be able to call their grandparents on their own — without giving them a smartphone. The service runs on Barnluren's own private network infrastructure in the EU.
