Terms of Service

Last updated: September 2026

⚠ Important: No Emergency Services

Barnluren cannot be used to call emergency services (112) or any external phone numbers.

Barnluren is a private network for families. Calls can only be made to contacts within the Barnluren network that you have approved. It is technically impossible to dial emergency services, regular phone numbers, or anyone outside your approved contact list.

Children using Barnluren must always have access to a mobile phone or traditional landline for emergencies.

Do not think of Barnluren as a phone - it is a private communication tool for staying in touch with approved family members and friends.

These terms govern your use of Barnluren, a phone service that gives children their own phone line with parent-controlled allow-lists. By using our service, you agree to these terms.

About the Service

Barnluren is a private voice network for families. It is not a telephone service and does not connect to the public phone network. The service provides:

  • A Barnluren landline device for your child with a dedicated Barnluren number
  • Voice calls between your child and approved family members and friends
  • An allow-list so your child can only call people you approve
  • Free mobile apps (iOS and Android) for family members to call your child
  • A parent dashboard to manage contacts and settings

The service is accessed via our mobile apps, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Your use of the apps is also subject to the terms of the respective app store.

The service is provided by Barnluren 555 AB (Org.nr: 559480-7827), a company registered in Sweden.

Who Can Use the Service

Customers must be adults (18+). The service is designed for parents or guardians to set up phone lines for their children. By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and have the legal authority to enter into this agreement.

You are responsible for your child's use of the service and for ensuring they understand how to use it appropriately.

Your Responsibilities

As a Barnluren customer, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate account information
  • Keep your login credentials secure
  • Supervise your child's use of the service as appropriate
  • Maintain an up-to-date allow-list of approved contacts
  • Ensure your child has access to emergency services through a mobile phone or traditional landline (Barnluren cannot call emergency services)
  • Use the service only for lawful purposes

Acceptable Use

You and your child must not use the service to:

  • Harass, threaten, or abuse others
  • Make fraudulent or illegal calls
  • Circumvent the allow-list restrictions
  • Resell or redistribute the service
  • Interfere with the service's operation

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Plans, Billing and Payment

You buy the Barnluren hardware (the adapter, and optionally an analog phone) as a one-time purchase. Every phone then includes our free plan, and paid plans can be added — and removed — at any time:

  • Barnluren Friends (free, included with every phone): unlimited calls to and from other Barnluren phones, plus one app contact — the parent who manages the line. No subscription, no card on file, no fees for as long as the service operates.
  • Barnluren Friends & Family (monthly subscription): adds unlimited app contacts. Started in the app after activation; billed monthly until cancelled.
  • Barnluren Everyone (in closed beta, not yet available for purchase): will add a real phone number with fair-use calling to and from approved regular numbers. Pricing will be announced before launch.

"Free" describes the price of the Barnluren Friends plan — it is a promise that the plan carries no fees, not a guarantee of the company's lifetime (see "If Barnluren Ever Shuts Down" below).

Payments are processed securely by Stripe. By starting a subscription, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis. Current prices are displayed at purchase and on your dashboard.

Cancellation

You can cancel a subscription at any time from your dashboard, in the app, or by contacting us. Upon cancellation:

  • Your paid plan continues until the end of the current billing period
  • Your line then returns to the free Barnluren Friends plan — calls between Barnluren phones keep working, and your Barnluren number is kept
  • App contacts beyond the Friends plan's limit are paused, not deleted — they come back if you re-subscribe

If you close your account entirely, your account data is deleted according to our privacy policy.

Service Availability

We strive to provide reliable service, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. The service may be affected by:

  • Internet connectivity issues (yours or ours)
  • Power outages
  • Maintenance and updates
  • Server or infrastructure issues

The service is provided "as is" without guarantees of uptime or call quality.

If Barnluren Ever Shuts Down

Barnluren is built to last, but no company can honestly promise to exist forever. What we can promise is what happens if we ever have to close the network:

  • We will give at least 12 months' notice before discontinuing the service, and keep the network running for that entire period.
  • Subscription fees prepaid beyond the shutdown date are refunded pro rata.
  • Before shutdown, we will release a final firmware update that unlocks the Barnluren adapter for standard SIP telephony, so your phones can keep working with other VoIP providers of your choice.

If Barnluren 555 AB becomes insolvent, these commitments apply only to the extent the law allows — an insolvency estate may be unable to honor them. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • We are not liable for failed or dropped calls
  • Our total liability is limited to the subscription fees you've paid in the last 12 months

Reminder: Barnluren cannot call emergency services. Always ensure children have access to a phone that can dial 112.

These limitations do not affect your statutory rights as a consumer under Swedish law.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Barnluren 555 AB harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your misuse of the service or violation of these terms.

Mobile Apps

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use our mobile apps on devices you own or control. The apps are licensed to you, not sold.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the apps. You may not reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code unless permitted by law.

We may update the apps from time to time. Some updates may be required to continue using the service.

Intellectual Property

"Barnluren" and our logo are trademarks of Barnluren 555 AB. You may not use our trademarks without permission.

Termination by Us

We may suspend or terminate your account if:

  • You violate these terms
  • Your payment fails repeatedly
  • We're required to by law
  • We discontinue the service (with reasonable notice)

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. For significant changes, we'll notify you by email at least 30 days in advance. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by Swedish law. Any disputes will be resolved in Swedish courts. As a consumer, you also have the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, and you retain any rights granted by mandatory consumer protection laws.

Dispute Resolution

If you have a complaint, please contact us first at [email protected]. We'll do our best to resolve any issues.

You may also contact the Swedish Consumer Agency (Konsumentverket) or use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/odr.
