Unplug and stop using the Barnluren device
Published 2026-10-19 · Updated 2026-10-22
Update 2026-10-22: the service has stopped, and every device is refunded
We have worked through the fault with the manufacturer. A safe replacement for the plug part is not possible within a reasonable time, so we have decided to shut down the Barnluren service and refund every customer in full. The phone can no longer make or receive calls. We are deeply disappointed that it has come to this.
The refund. We are refunding the full price of the device, and of a phone bought from us, to the card or account it was paid with. Subscription billing has stopped. You do not need to do anything: we are going through every order by hand, and every customer gets an email confirming their refund by 2026-11-05. The money is back on the card 5–10 banking days after that.
The return. The confirmation email carries a free PostNord return label as a QR code. Put the white Barnluren device, the part that sits in the wall socket, in an envelope or a small box and show the code at a PostNord service point. Keep the phone and its cable. If you are outside Sweden and Denmark we will email you separately about what to do with the device. If you had a device through the beta, email [email protected] with your postal address and we will send you a return QR code.
What comes after we do not yet know. We will look at our options, and if we find a safe way forward we will write to everyone. Please do not wait for it: the device you have is being recalled.
Until the device has gone back, keep it unplugged and out of reach of children.
The notice of 2026-10-19
We are recalling the Barnluren device. Unplug it from the wall socket now and stop using it.
What is wrong
The Barnluren device plugs directly into the wall socket. The plug part can break if someone falls on the device or pulls the phone cable, for example by tripping over it. A broken plug can leave live parts exposed. This is a risk of electric shock.
Which devices
Every Barnluren device we have shipped so far, whichever phone is connected to it. The device is the adapter that sits in the wall socket, with the phone cable plugged into it.
What to do now
- Unplug the device from the wall socket now and stop using it.
- If the plug is already cracked or broken: do not touch it. Switch off the socket or the fuse first, then remove it from the socket.
- Keep the device out of reach of children until it has been sent back.
The phone will not work while the device is unplugged.
